Cancer Research UK - Relay for Life, Your Team, Your Town, Saving lives together

This blog is to show the Candle bags that have been decorated on behalf of people who are unable to make it to the Relay for Life starting on the 17th July 2010 at noon. It is also to diary donations and anything else in relation to the Candlelight Ceremony which will take place at 10pm on the evening of the 17th July.

Last years Relay for Life Candlelight Ceremony

Below is a clip from 2009's Candle light Ceremony where Mel Rout sang her rendition of Snow Patrol's 'Light Up'. A beautiful and poignant moment during the Relay that brought everyone there even more together than they were, if that is possible!

Mothers, Fathers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Grand parents, Grand children, Friends and Carers together as one.

Been busy

As you can see from the photo above I have been busy making cards to sell at Relay for Life 2010 and at any other events along the way. I will be taking letters and numbers with me enabling anyone purchasing a card to personalise it there and then.

Tamerton Carnival 1st May 2010

On Saturday 1st May 2010 I went along to the Carnival where another member of the Committee had a stall for Cancer Research promoting Relay and also had a raffle. Three bags were decorated by 3 little girls. The two bags above were decorated by Emily and Sophie whose Great Aunt Jean passed away recently. They had a great time sat on the picnic blanket with me and their mummy. As you can see they were both extremely creative.

The candle bag below was decorated by a little girl whose name I didnt get, she was there with her mummy and daddy who went to the Relay last year and will be going this year. Again another very creative little girl. The bag was for her Great Gran.

Another donation from Just Tracy's Crafts

Tracy gave me a ring last week to say she had had another sort out of craft items and bless her had divided it up between Relay for Life and St Luke's Hospice. As you can see there is tons of paper that can be used in punches to make shapes to decorate the candle bags with :) I will also be using some of it to make cards to sell at the event and any other events we are able to sell items at. As some of the donated items are Christmas related, whatever I make can go towards next years relay and/or I can make some cards for the Hospice too.

Tracy's shop is now open and is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to relaxing, its a lovely environment with workshops to suit everybody.

Thank you Tracy, your support is and continues to be invaluable.

Thank you for our first donation

Today ( well yesterday really considering the time now) saw the first donation for a decorated Candle bag :-) This was at a Cancer Research UK collection event at a local Morrisons. I myself was only there for two hours but some volunteers were there for most of the day.

Also we received a donation of a £15 gift voucher from Tracy Watkiss who has an online craft shop and will shortly be opening a craft shop in Plymouth. The voucher is to be used in the new craft shop. http://www.justtracys.co.uk/

During the collection today a little girl called Maria emptied her purse into the collection box. She said she wanted to help make people better. What a beautiful soul.

Preperation for decorating Candle bags

We have paper galore, glitter, punched out shapes, ribbons, inks, pens, pencils, stamped images, poems, peel offs, ( click on each photo to see the punched shapes in better detail)

Each candle bag will be photographed when decorated and again when lit on the evening of Saturday 17th July 2010.

There is a section on the just giving page to enter your requirements but if you need more space please email me at imagination@useit4.fslife.co.uk
